Our verdict
FarmersOnly is a long-running dating site for farmers and country-minded singles in the US and Canada. Browsing and flirts are free, but messaging needs Premium.
Bottom line: Worth trying if you live rurally and want someone who shares country life. Check how many active members live within driving distance before paying; Match and OurTime offer bigger pools with wide search.
Great for: Rural and country singles
Not ideal for: City dwellers, people outside the US and Canada, and anyone who wants to message for free.
What FarmersOnly is
Most FarmersOnly reviews start with the commercial, and its catchy jingle is still what many people know the site for. Behind it is a dating site for farmers, ranchers and other “country-minded folks” in the United States and Canada. Jerry Miller, a Cleveland marketing executive who worked with farms and ranches, founded it in 2005 after a divorced farm owner told him the big dating sites didn’t understand rural life. Its tagline became “City folks just don’t get it.” FarmersOnly Media, Inc. still runs it (FarmersOnly).
So, is FarmersOnly still around? Yes. The website is active, and a new official iPhone app, “Farmers Only - Country Dating”, launched in the US App Store in February 2025. There’s also an Android app, FarmersOnly Dating. Watch out for look-alike apps with similar names from other companies.
How FarmersOnly works
You join free, pick who you’re looking for (men or women, including same-sex searches) and build a profile with your lifestyle, goals and hobbies. Staff review every profile and photo before others can see them. Then you either use Search Profiles, with an advanced filter for age and distance, or Discover, where you star or skip active members in your age range. When two people star each other, you both get a heart.
Free Standard members can send flirts, which are short ready-made messages. Real messages are Premium only. If a Premium member writes to a Standard member, the Standard member has to upgrade to read it (FarmersOnly FAQ). In practice, both of you need to pay to talk properly.
Who you’ll meet
Members must be in the United States or Canada; FarmersOnly says access from abroad is prohibited, so there’s no FarmersOnly for the UK or Australia. If you’re in Britain, Muddy Matches plays the same role. You don’t have to farm. The site welcomes anyone with a country outlook, and its FAQ says it welcomes members of every sexual orientation and bans harassment.
FarmersOnly doesn’t publish member numbers beyond “many millions” since 2005. What matters is how many active people live within your driving distance, and that varies a lot from county to county.
Is FarmersOnly legit?
Yes. It’s a real company that has been running for two decades, reviews profiles by hand and says plainly that it never sends fake flirts or messages to spur activity. It doesn’t run background checks, though, and its scam advice is blunt: never send money, and distrust anyone who says they’re abroad, since members can only be in the US or Canada.
The app ratings are split. The new iPhone app has 4.5 out of 5 from 302 ratings in the US App Store, while the Android app has 2.0 from about 3,200 reviews on Google Play (both checked October 28, 2026). The most common complaint is having to pay before you can reply to anyone.
FarmersOnly vs Match
Match has a far bigger pool and lets you search across long distances, which matters in the countryside. FarmersOnly gives you a shared way of life instead of numbers. See our FarmersOnly vs Match comparison and the farmers dating sites ranking.
Our tip
Before paying, search at the longest distance you’d really drive and count the members who were active this month. If there are only a few, a short plan here plus a free profile on a bigger site works better than a long plan.
