Short answer
ℹ️ We found no free trial of XTRA or Unlimited, but Grindr’s free version lets you browse the Grid and chat with no time limit. An Unlimited Day Pass is sold in the app if you want to try the top tier.
What you can do for free
- Browse the nearby Grid, with a limit on profiles
- Chat with anyone
- Filters, Taps and Fresh
- One Explore chat a day
Is there a Grindr free trial?
We found no free trial of XTRA or Unlimited in Grindr’s help center. You don’t need one, though, because Grindr’s free version lets you create a profile, browse the Grid and chat with no time limit. If you want to try the top tier, the App Store lists an Unlimited Day Pass at $9.99 (checked November 1, 2026), which is the cheapest legitimate way to test it.
What the free version includes
- The Grid of people nearest to you, with a limit on how many you can see.
- Chat, with photos, video and voice messages.
- Taps, Fresh, and the filters, which all members can use.
- One person a day through Explore.
- Boosts, if you choose to buy them.
Where the free version stops
You’ll see third-party ads. In the Viewed Me list, you see only your most recent viewer and can’t open that profile. Read receipts, saved phrases and Grindr Web need XTRA. Incognito, unsending messages and unlimited profiles need Unlimited. Age filters also have a five-year minimum range unless you’re on Unlimited.
Getting the most from free Grindr
- Fill in your profile and tags, since they’re what people filter on.
- Use filters to cut down the Grid, because you have a limited number of profiles to look through.
- Check Fresh to see who’s new.
- Use your one daily Explore chat before a trip to get to know people there.
Free Unlimited offers and modified apps
We found no official Grindr promo codes. Sites offering free XTRA or Unlimited, and “modified” versions of the app, aren’t from Grindr. They can cost you your account or your personal data, and on a service like this that matters more than most. If you decide to pay, check what each plan costs, and remember that purchases are final.
