Step 1: Cancel your subscription
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → OkCupid → Cancel.
- Android: Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → OkCupid → Cancel.
- Website: OkCupid account settings → subscription / billing.
Step 2: Delete your OkCupid account
- Open OkCupid and tap your profile icon.
- Go to Settings and scroll down.
- Tap Disable your account.
- Choose Delete (permanent) or Disable (hidden, can be reactivated) and follow the prompts.
Menu names can change after app updates. If you can’t find an option, check OkCupid’s help centre.
Disable or delete?
OkCupid gives you two options, and the difference matters.
- Disable hides your account so it looks deleted to others, but you can reactivate it later with your profile and answers intact. If you pay by card or PayPal, billing is paused while the account is disabled.
- Delete is permanent. Your profile, answers and conversations are removed, and a subscription paid on the website is cancelled.
Steps in the app
- Tap your profile icon in the bottom corner.
- Open Settings and scroll down.
- Tap Disable your account.
- Follow the prompts and choose Delete or Disable.
On the website
Sign in, open your profile, go to Settings, and scroll to the "Need a break?" section. Follow the link, choose a reason and confirm.
If you paid in an app store
Disabling or deleting does not touch App Store or Google Play subscriptions. Cancel them in the store first, then remove your account. Removing the app from your phone does nothing to billing on its own.
Before you go
Hundreds of answered questions take hours to recreate. If there is any chance you will be back, disabling is the better choice.
One more detail: if you signed up with Facebook or Apple, make sure you can still sign in before you start, because OkCupid asks you to be logged in to delete or disable the account.
