What’s changed at Zoosk

Many Zoosk reviews online describe an older service. Zoosk is now part of Black Cap, a company that runs several dating brands, including Christian Mingle (Zoosk). Its help center has been updated throughout 2026, and some of what you’ll read elsewhere no longer applies. Zoosk Coins are gone, for example. Any balance was converted to Boosts.

Zoosk is also available only in the United States, Canada, Australia and US territories. Signing in from anywhere else, or through a VPN, can get your account blocked (Zoosk). You must be 18 or over.

How the Zoosk dating site works

One account works on the website and in the iPhone and Android apps. You can meet people in three ways:

• Search. Set your filters and browse, in the standard view or in Explore, which shows more people at once along with any interests you share.
• Carousel. See a photo and age, then Like or Pass. Mutual Likes become Connections in your Chat page. Carousel also shows people outside your filters.
• SmartPick. A daily set of suggestions based on your profile, preferences and activity. Your votes stay private, and you’re told only if the interest is mutual.

One recent change to know about: Zoosk now mixes in members from Black Cap’s sister apps, some of which are built around a faith or community. You can’t turn that off yet (Zoosk).

What’s free and what isn’t

With a free account you can build a profile, browse, send Likes, use Carousel and get up to three SmartPicks a day. What you can’t do is message. Zoosk+ is what opens up messaging, more SmartPicks and read receipts. And even then, a free member can reply to you only if you bought the extra Premium Messaging upgrade, which you can add only when you buy Zoosk+. See what Zoosk costs.

Who you’ll meet on Zoosk

Zoosk has a broad membership and doesn’t publish an age breakdown. Its App Store listing says it has 40 million members, but that’s a lifetime figure and says little about who’s active near you. It works for people who want a mix of browsing and swiping rather than one or the other, and it’s less demanding than a compatibility site. Zoosk welcomes bisexual members too.

Is Zoosk legit?

Yes. It’s a long-running service, with an iPhone app first released in 2010. Photos are reviewed before they appear, and an optional selfie check earns you a blue verified badge. Look for that badge, because plenty of people don’t bother to verify. The iPhone app is rated 4.2 out of 5 from about 105,000 ratings in the US App Store, and the Android app 3.4 from about 609,000 reviews on Google Play (checked November 1, 2026). No real member needs your money, so report anyone who asks.
