Our verdict
Christian Mingle is a dating site and app for Christian singles, launched in 2001 and now run by Black Cap Holdings. Free members can send 10 Likes a day and message anyone they match with. Premium adds unlimited Likes, a list of who liked you and extra filters.
Bottom line: Worth a free try for Christians in the US, Canada and Australia; pay only once you are getting matches near you.
Great for: Christian singles in the US, Canada and Australia
Not ideal for: People outside the US, Canada and Australia, and anyone who wants to search members on their own.
Who runs Christian Mingle now
Many Christian Mingle reviews you’ll find describe a site that has since changed hands. Spark Networks launched it in 2001 (Wikipedia). Today the terms of use (updated September 25, 2026) and the help center name Black Cap Holdings, LLC as the operator. Black Cap also runs Zoosk, JDate, JSwipe and LDS Singles on the same platform.
So Christian Mingle still exists, and it’s a legit service. Much of the older advice about it is out of date, though. The biggest change is that free members can now message their matches.
How Christian Mingle works day to day
You answer onboarding questions and set your match preferences, and then the site does the searching for you. There’s no member search. Christian Mingle says it prefers quality over quantity and filters out inactive members. Profiles reach you in three places:
- Recommended follows your preferences most closely, with 3 picks a day on the free plan and 10 with Premium.
- Discover deliberately shows people outside your age or distance settings, one at a time.
- Liked You lists everyone who has liked your profile.
Tap the heart to like someone. If they like you back, it’s a match and you can chat, whether or not either of you pays. To reach someone before that, attach an Intro Message of up to 400 characters to your like. Free members get 3 a week and Premium members 20.
Preferences guide your matches but don’t filter them strictly. Free members can set age, gender, distance, education, politics, beliefs, relationship type and children. Premium adds height, church activity, family plans, smoking and drinking. When few people fit, you’ll see people outside your settings, and Christian Mingle has also started mixing in members from Black Cap’s sister apps. It says everyone shown has identified as part of your community, but you can’t switch this off yet (help center).
Who you’ll meet on Christian Mingle
The site is open only to adults in the US, Canada, Australia and US territories. Signing in from another country, or through a VPN, can get your account flagged. Christian Mingle doesn’t publish its member count, age mix or gender ratio, so treat figures you see elsewhere with caution.
Faith shows up in the matching itself: beliefs is a free preference and church activity a Premium one. Catholics will meet a broader Christian mix here than on CatholicMatch. Since 2016, members have been able to choose same-sex matches. Younger Christians who prefer swiping often find Upward a better fit.
What Christian Mingle reviews complain about
The iPhone app has a 3.6 rating from 423 ratings in the US App Store (checked October 15, 2026). Recent one-star reviews, from late 2025 to mid-2026, keep coming back to the same few problems:
- a thin local pool, with matches far outside the chosen distance or from another dating site;
- the same recommendations repeating for days;
- accounts blocked soon after sign-up;
- fake profiles that end in a request for money.
Some reviewers paid about $50 for a month and learned only afterward that purchases are non-refundable. That doesn’t mean the service fails everywhere. It does mean you should judge it on your own area before you pay, and the free plan now lets you do that properly.
Christian Mingle vs eHarmony and Upward
eHarmony is bigger and matches on long-term compatibility, with faith as one factor among many. Our Christian Mingle vs eHarmony comparison sets out the differences. Upward is a free swipe app for Christians with a younger crowd, and our Upward vs Christian Mingle comparison covers who each one suits.
Our tip before you pay
Do the selfie check first. It takes a minute, and with so many reviews mentioning fakes, the blue badge matters. Then spend a week on the free plan, using your 10 daily likes and 3 Intro Messages on people you’d really meet. If you have matches and conversations nearby, Premium buys you more reach. If your Recommended list fills with people three states away, no plan will fix that. And never send money to anyone you meet here, whatever they say about church or mission work. Our romance scam guide shows the usual script.
