Bottom line: The best place to start if you want a dating space where disability is ordinary; pair it with a mainstream app for reach.

What Dateability is
Our Dateability review starts with the short answer: it’s a small, genuine dating app where disability is ordinary, and you can swipe, match and message without paying. Sisters Alexa and Jacqueline Child founded it after Jacqueline, who is chronically ill, met discrimination and offensive comments on mainstream apps. Dateability, Inc. released the app in 2022. It runs on iPhone and Android and in a browser at dateabilityapp.com.
It’s built for people with physical, intellectual and psychiatric disabilities and chronic illness. Non-disabled people can join too, as long as they respect the community; Dateability says inappropriate messages or demands get an account deleted. People of every gender and orientation are welcome, and you must be 18 or over.
How Dateability works
You build a profile with 4 to 6 photos and choose who you’re interested in. Then you swipe in Search: a heart sends a Like, X passes and Skip moves on for now. X’d profiles come back after 30 days and skipped ones straight away. When two people like each other, they move to Matches and can chat.
Search uses a compatibility score, so a strong match from outside your distance can still appear. You can look within 500 miles or across the whole app, or turn on the location dealbreaker to see only people nearby and stay hidden from everyone else.
Two features show who the app is for. Dateability Deets is an optional list of terms for describing your disability or illness, so you can share it in a few taps rather than an essay, or leave it out. And every photo can carry an image description (alt text) for members who can’t see it.
Is Dateability legit and safe?
Yes. It’s an independent company with a public team and press coverage, and its US App Store rating is 3.9 from 107 ratings (checked October 16, 2026). Profile verification compares three posed photos with your profile pictures and adds a badge. You can report or block anyone from the bottom of their profile. A small, welcoming community still draws people who exploit that, so be careful with anyone who asks for money or rushes to move off the app.
Who you’ll meet
Dateability is open in 21 countries, among them the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and the app is English only. It doesn’t publish member numbers, but it’s far smaller than Hinge or Bumble. In a smaller town you may reach the end of nearby profiles quickly. Its FAQ suggests widening your filters when you see “No Matching Profiles”.
