SilverSingles is a dating site and app only for people over 50. Since 2026 it has been run by SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., and it now works by browsing, filters and likes, with every visible profile verified by selfie video.
Bottom line: SilverSingles is worth a free account if you want a verified, over-50-only community and are willing to pay to message.
Great for: Over 50s who want an age-limited, verified community
Not ideal for: People who want free messaging, or who joined for the old personality-test matching.
What is SilverSingles now?
SilverSingles is a dating site and app for singles over 50, and in 2026 it changed hands. It was part of Spark Networks, the group behind EliteSingles and Zoosk, until Spark Networks’ German operating company went into insolvency proceedings in January 2026 (Global Dating Insights, 2026). SilverSingles’ terms, updated on May 12, 2026, now name SuccessfulMatch.com, Inc., a Delaware company, as the operator (SilverSingles, 2026). So if you’ve heard that SilverSingles went out of business, that isn’t the case: the website and the iPhone app were both live when we checked on October 3, 2026. Its sister site EliteSingles did close, on April 30, 2026.
How the SilverSingles dating site works
The site works differently from the old version. Spark Networks matched members through a long personality test; SilverSingles’ current help and membership pages describe browsing profiles, filters, likes and swipes instead, with curated daily matches for paying members. You have to be at least 50 to join. Before your profile becomes visible to others, you upload a clear main photo and record a short selfie video, which SilverSingles compares with your photos. The video isn’t shown on your profile.
The SilverSingles app and the website use the same account, so you can start on a laptop and carry on from your phone. SilverSingles says its app is on iPhone and Android.
What you can do for free
The free Standard membership lets you create a profile, get verified, see potential matches and receive recommended profiles. Who uses SilverSingles?
Everyone on SilverSingles is 50 or older, and the site says many members are looking for companionship or a relationship that fits this stage of life, often after divorce or the loss of a partner. SilverSingles describes its members as coming from across the United States. The new iPhone app is young, with a 4.3 rating from 172 App Store ratings when we checked, so the community on the new platform is still being rebuilt.
Is SilverSingles legit and safe?
Yes, it’s a legitimate paid dating service, and every profile that can interact with you has passed the photo and selfie-video check. That check confirms a face matches the photos; it doesn’t confirm someone’s income, intentions or history, and SilverSingles says it doesn’t run background checks. You can hide or report anyone from their profile, and Silver Select adds voice and video calls that keep your phone number private. Never send money or gift cards to someone you’ve met online, the classic sign of a romance scam.
Common complaints in SilverSingles reviews
- Messaging needs Silver Select, so the free membership is mostly a preview.
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length unless you switch it off in Settings.
- Refunds are limited to cancellations within three business days of subscribing.
- The change of owner means older reviews describe a different site, including the personality test.

SilverSingles suits people over 50 who want a site where everyone is in their age group and verified, and who are happy to pay to message. If you joined years ago for the compatibility test, treat it as a new service and try the free membership before paying. If you want free messaging, a free OurTime or Match account is a cheaper start.
How to get more from SilverSingles
- Get verified first. Until your selfie video is approved, nobody can see or contact you.
- Write specifics. The site’s own advice holds: a walk you take every Sunday says more than “I like being active.”
- Start with one month. A short plan shows whether there are enough active members near you before you commit to six.
