This Mutual review covers the best-known dating app for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s been on the App Store since 2016, created by BYU graduates and now run by a small team in Utah. Mutual LLC is independent, and its listing says the app isn’t made, approved or endorsed by the Church. You must be 18 or over.

You don’t have to be a member. Mutual says visitors are welcome, as they are at church, as long as they follow its Community Standards (Mutual). So if it matters that someone’s active, ask early.

How the Mutual dating app works

You set up a profile with photos and prompts, then swipe up on people you like and down on people you don’t. If you both swipe up, you’re connected and can chat. Your profile is reviewed before anyone can see it, which usually takes less than a day.

Two things go beyond swiping. A Note lets you send one message before you match, and it shows up with your profile. Free members get one a week, and it doesn’t carry over. On Sundays, Mutual also runs blind speed dating, where you talk to people directly instead of browsing.

Who you’ll meet

Mutual says it has members in every adult age group, including young single adults, mid-singles and older singles. You choose the age range you want, and you only appear to people whose range includes you. Even so, it’s best known among younger members, and it’s busiest where there are large LDS communities, particularly Utah and the western US. Is Mutual legit and safe?

Yes. It has 4.2 out of 5 from about 40,000 ratings in the US App Store and 4.2 from about 22,000 on Google Play (checked November 1, 2026). Mutual claims tens of thousands of couples have met on it and married, which we can’t verify, though its blog has hundreds of their stories.

You can verify your profile by copying a pose in a photo, which Mutual’s team reviews, and that earns you a pink badge. Using pictures that aren’t yours means a permanent ban (Mutual). To report someone, open their profile, scroll to the bottom and tap Report or Block User. Our tip

Be specific in your prompts. Mutual’s own example is that “I run the Provo River trail most mornings” gets a reply where “I like being active” doesn’t. Say what stage you’re at, too, such as YSA or mid-singles, and what you’re looking for. Then send a few thoughtful likes rather than fifty blank ones.
