Is Lex a Good App for Queer Friends and Dates?

What Lex is now

This Lex app review starts with a change of purpose. Lex grew out of a text personals idea, and in its 2023 rebrand it said it had “evolved from a dating app to a vibrant social platform” (Lex). Today it’s a queer social network from Lex Social Inc., on iPhone and Android. You can still find dates, but friends, groups and events come first. You must be 18 or over.

How the Lex app works

You scroll a local feed and write posts: an introduction, a question, a story or a note about who you’re looking for. People who like what you wrote can message you. There’s a tab for discovering friends, and you can browse profiles, join or start groups, and find events through a tag in the feed. The listing’s examples include a bisexual book club and a trans tea party.

Using Lex for dating

Dating here starts with words. You write a post about who or what you’re looking for and wait for replies, or write a missed connection to find someone you’ve already met. If you don’t want to date, you can hide those posts from your feed. Profiles can have photos, but you’re not swiping through them, so it suits people who like writing. Who’s on Lex

Anyone who identifies as part of the LGBT+ community is welcome, and Lex says it doesn’t exclude anyone based on gender. It’s especially known among queer women, trans and non-binary people, and it has a zero-tolerance policy on transphobia, including the fetishization of trans people (Lex). It claims people in over 200 countries and more than 1 million downloads, so outside big cities your local feed may be quiet.

What’s free

Lex describes itself as free, and you can read, post and message without paying. There’s a limit on posts, and the app warns you when you have one left. Your location on Lex

You can say no to location sharing, but then you can’t post in the feed or use distance filters. Once you’ve shared a location on your profile, you can’t undo it, though you can update it. Lex suggests changing your location the next time you’re in a nearby city if you’d rather not show your town. On iPhone, you can also turn off Precise Location for the app (Lex).

Is Lex safe and legit?

It’s a real company. The app has 4.5 out of 5 from about 5,900 ratings in the US App Store and 4.1 from about 5,800 on Google Play (checked November 1, 2026). Lex’s team reviews reports, and enough reports can get someone banned automatically until the team has looked. Nobody’s told who reported them or who blocked them.

Still, Lex warns about scams of its own. Watch for people selling tickets, “sugar parent” offers and anyone who wants to move quickly to another app (Lex). Our tip

Write your post for one person, not a list of requirements. Be specific about a place you love or what you’d like to do this weekend. Then join a local group, because people often reply more easily when they already know you from somewhere.
